Volunteer: *CANCELLED* Adult Registration: 2nd Annual Save Comins Lake Pike-OutATTENTION PIKE-OUT PARTICIPANTS We have been closely watching the weather and have made the decision to cancel the 2025 Save Comins Lake Pike-Out scheduled for Saturday, October 11th. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear, especially if you were registered for the event this past May as well. Please see the details below to help further explain. I will be following up with phone calls Thursday morning to confirm that you have received this message, unless I get a reply from you on this email. Safety is our number one priority, and the forecasted conditions do not meet our standards for hosting an event like this. Temperatures are forecasted to drop over 20 in less than 24 hours prior to the Pike-Out scheduled for Saturday. The abrupt temperature drop, unsettled weather Thursday through Saturday, and high winds that are forecasted for Ely will result in very challenging and slow fishing conditions this weekend. The intent of the Pike-Out is to remove Northern Pike through another means of suppression while also providing an opportunity for NDOW staff to interact with and educate anglers on the impacts of Northern Pike on a fishery and the associated management challenges. It is because of the potential safety hazards and a poor fishing forecast that the event has been cancelled. We know anglers travel from all over the state (some even out of state) for this event, so we want to ensure that we set it up for success and safety. If you are still interested in fishing for Northern Pike this fall at Comins Lake, please reach out to Heath Korell - hkorell@ndow.org or 775-289-1655. This is the registration page for the ADULT (16+) participants only. For YOUTH registration, please visit this link: https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/233412 This is for the rescheduled date of OCTOBER 11, 2025. Even if you were registered for the event in May, you MUST re-register here. Join NDOW for the 2nd Annual Save Comins Lake Pike-Out! We are calling on local anglers to volunteer to fish out as many Northern Pike from Comins Lake as we can. Northern Pike are aquatic invasive species (AIS) that negatively impact the Comins Lake fishery. Anglers volunteering for the event will be entered in age-group categories for a chance to win 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for biggest pike caught (lbs) and most pike caught. Age-group categories are (1) 5 to 9 years old (2) 10 to 15 years old and (3) 16+ years old.
