Join us for our largest outreach event of the year! The Nevada Department of Wildlife has a designated tent at the Clark County Fair & Rodeo to showcase our different divisions and give kids the opportunity to fish for bluegill and try their hand at archery. We are looking for volunteers to assist with staffing our various booths. They will answer questions from the public and give kids a stamp as they stop by to complete their wildlife passport.
Below are our various booths followed by the number of personnel it takes to staff the area.
- Hunter Ed camp (2): provide hunting info to the public, answer questions.
- Catch and release fishing pond (5): we will have live bluegill for youth to experience fishing. Volunteers are needed to assist with line management, one-on-one assistance with kids, prepping rods, handling fish, etc.
- Archery range (3): run the archery range, ensure archers are being safe, provide basic archery instruction using the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) method with Genesis bows and Easton arrows.
- Boating Education (2): educate the public on safe boating, have them try their hand at tying a knot.
- Wildlife and Urban Wildlife Education (5): educate guests on native wildlife, how to live safely alongside our wild neighbors, show off our resident snakes, etc.
Familiarity with the booth you are interested in working in is ideal, though staff can train you on frequently asked questions and provide direction on how to run the activities.
The NDOW tent is open from 10am - 8pm each day. The shifts are split into a morning shift (9am - 3pm) and an afternoon shift (2pm - 8pm). Tuesday, April 8 is setup day and involves a fair amount of physical labor. On Sunday, April 13, we will be open until 9pm then pack up our tent. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with the public and working outdoors (though shaded under the tent). Throughout the week, there are approximately 2,500 guests that visit our tent.
